It is an awesome experience to be used by the Holy Spirit. To see and feel God at work through you brings excitement and a hopeful expectation of being used again. Often the experience brings a sense of humility, “Wow, I am so privileged to be a vessel of the Lord.” But sadly, it can also lead to pride, “Look what I’m doing for God.” 1 Corinthians 14 wisely handles the tendency for sinful people to be slef-centered, even about what God is doing in their lives.

Love Reduces Friction:
In the beautiful image that Paul creates for the church to work together as a body, there is a recognition tht without a genuine and sacrificial love for one another, the body will war against itself. Today’s passage 1 Corinthians 13, familiar at weddings and on posters, needs to be applied in its context; facing frustration,fear, pride and disappointment that occurs in the church. Let God invite you to a deeper commitment to Himself and to the body of Christ through worship and the word today.

Have you ever almost slipped and fallen off of the path of faith? Psalm 73 is the prayer of someone who remembers a troubling chapter of his faith and journey. The Psalmist had almost slipped and stumbled because of the disconnect he observed between God’s promises and his life experience. We will look at his honest confession of his time of doubt, but also at how these thoughts drove him to think about the eternal faithfulness of God and about the frailty of this life. “But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds. ” Psalm 73:28.

God has created a beautiful mosaic in the diverse gifts given to the church. Unified, the church is powerful and effective…but unity is not often a natural state for people with varied passions and abilities. In 1 Cor. 12, Paul reminds us what our attitude should be toward others in the body of Christ by confronting two sinful ways of thinking.
