If we are to imitate Christ, we must come to grips with his selfless generosity as demonstrated in His life and in His death. 2 Corinthians 8:9 is a profound truth about the character of God. This verse teaches more than financial giving. It is a lifestyle dedicated to the joy and blessing of others for the glory of God.

The current economic crisis has gotten us all to take a hard look at where our money is going. Because the Bible speaks to so many key life issues, there is wealth of instruction about how to handle our resources. But if we are to apply any of the Biblical truth to our wallet, we will need to accept this foundational truth: God Owns Everything. Last week Pastor Stephen laid down the framework for our study of gifts that can get out of hand, outlining the various theological positions related to the manifestations of the Spirit. A further look into 1 Corinthians 14 reveals several red flags that warn us when it is not the Holy Spirit showing himself in a believer, but rather the person seeking to imitate what the Spirit has done. When we pretend (or are deceived) to work in the Spirit, we do damage to the church.
