Easter Morning Breakfast

Posted by Office On February - 25 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

It’s almost that time of year again for the church family Easter breakfast. This has been a tradition at DHEFC for twenty years now (we’ve grown from 53 to 300 in attendance!), so plan on making it part of your Resurrection Day celebration!  Please sign up on the insert in the Sunday bulletin if you plan on coming. We are also looking for people to help; help includes: set up on Saturday afternoon before Easter at 4pm (tables/chairs etc and/or some cooking), helping in the kitchen Easter Sunday morning, clean up after the breakfasts are over, and/or bringing something (usually homemade muffins or other baked goods, fruit such as washed whole strawberries, sliced cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon or pineapple, Dunkin Munchkins. Be sure to see Laura Reimer if you’d like to help, or fill it out on the Sunday bulletin insert.

Sacred Desert 1

Posted by Office On February - 23 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

God’s people are often placed in the desert. The wilderness is the backdrop for much of the Biblical story. We’ll spend the next several weeks thinking about living with brokenness, hearing God in the silence and going through testing with God’s help. Today we’ll look at the beginnings of the desert in the Biblical story and how the wilderness image was used in the Bible to encourage believers to grow to find joy in every circumstance and to become closer to God.

Missions update from the Restrepo’s

Posted by Office On February - 23 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Dear Friends,

It has been some time since we sent out an E. Prayer Letter and we apologize. We have held back hoping to have definitive news about a new venue for the International Church in Torrevieja.

So here is the News; after much searching and having dedicated December-February to the idea of moving or negotiating a time change with the Russian church we share premises with, the outcome is “NO CHANGE”. We almost signed a contract but it fell through, and we almost changed places with the Russian congregation but that fell through so for now we are staying put.

We admit that it has been hard to accept but we trust our church council and we know God has all in control. The real change is that we, the Restrepos, are moving to Torrevieja. We just signed a new rental and expect to begin moving in the 1st of March.
The International Church is in good spirits. We had our annual business meeting in early February and it went well. We have two new projects to reach the unchurched and they have come from members of the congregation which excites me even more. One is an outreach in a local restaurant on Wednesdays and the other is one directed to women and daughters, we also want to again have a permanent place at the Saturday market. Please pray for that.

The Murcia Church is doing very well. They are moping a little as they are not happy to know we are moving to Torrevieja, but they are doing well. We had a good turn out to a marriage seminar on the Feb.14th. and the Bible School classes continue to produce future leadership for the church. In the annual business meeting in early Feb. we chose an assistant pastor to help Pastor Dimas. New home groups have started and we are looking to the future as far as expanding the Elder Board.

One last Item of prayer. Three are traveling to Cuba this March 5th. Rafael and a member from each church, Murcia and Torrevieja. We are taking medicine and support for the Cuban church. Please pray for safety in and out.

Working together with HIM,
The Restrepos

Good Followers Give Their Lives for Jesus

Posted by Office On February - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Luke 9 is a powerful passage on discipleship. In this teaching, Jesus once again lays out the stakes for identification with Him. We are pretty used to living in a semi-Christian climate, with general acceptance of our views of Jesus. But the call upon His followers extends not only to the persecuted, but to every believer in every life circumstance. Will you dare to give your life for this Jesus?

FEBRUARY NOTES FROM THE EVERSWICKS IN HARARE

Dear Praying Friends,

Here we are in the middle of February, already six weeks into the new year. These weeks have been filled with travel, overseas visitors as well as
trying to get a little order to life.

We are doing well here in  Harare.  Rachelle runs in her school cross country contest tomorrow, Wednesday.  Then on Thursday we head east to
Mozambique with Bob and Madeline Blanchard of Timothy Network for a few days together with our Brazilian coworkers in Dondo.  This weekend is a long weekend off for Rachelle from school so she will be coming with us.

Before we get any further into the year we would like to share a few things
to pray about:

1.      Nido and Helaine.  After three months with us in Harare, this new couple from Sao Paolo have made the move to Mozambique where they will be part of a team involved in running a pastors and lay leaders Bible School among other ministries.  Pray for them in their efforts to learn the local Sena language these next months.  Pray also that they and the couple they work with will work well together as a team.

2.      Anna Mortensen has just finished almost a year of intense language and cultural study in preparation for her move to Karanda where she will
join the team of missionaries and nationals at Karanda Mission Hospital. Pray for her in her adjustment to a new situation and new responsibilities.

3.      Bud and Mandy Jackson are preparing to come and spend a couple years in Harare providing some initial leadership for our new HIV/AIDS initiative. They are in the process of raising a support base for their move.  Would you pray for them in this undertaking.

4.      Nancy continues to have many friendships and relationships with which she has great freedom and opportunities to engage in spiritual
discussions and discipleship.  Pray for her to be led and enabled by the Holy Spirit in these interactions.

5.      This past Saturday Nancy was involved in an accident.  She was driving our car when someone ran a stop sign.  She swerved to avoid the
vehicle but they still collided.  No one was injured but our car is quite damaged.  Thank the Lord that Nancy was spared injury and pray that we would find a good repairman.

6.      In addition to TEAM related admin and leadership, I (Doug) am glad to have opportunities to speak in churches and serve as an elder in our
church here I Harare.  I would appreciate your prayers for God to use me effectively when I share from God’s Word or serve in His church.  Last
Tuesday and today I had the privilege of bringing a devotional to some 40+ teachers at the school where Rachelle attends.  Next month Nancy will share with these same teachers.  Thanks for your prayers.

7.      This week we attended the funeral of the mother of one of the young men in our church.  His name is Tafi.  This year three of his immediate
family have been buried and three of his wife’s family also died.  There are young children left without parents or grandparents and huge
responsibilities fall on Tafi and his wife, Gracious.  Please pray for them as they grieve and seek God’s provision and leading during these really
difficult times.

8.      Thanks for keeping us in your prayers as we travel long roads to Mozambique this week.
