Trygve Landru 1928-2010

We are saddened by the loss of a dear friend to the Dix Hills Family, Tryg Landru.  Pastor Landru was the first pastor of the church and served from 1964 to 1972.  He was a gifted communicator and very warm in personal relationships. This helped give a solid foundation to the church in it’s early years. An excellent article was published by the Kenosha Wisconsin News.

Reverend Trygve “Tryg” Landru went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2010 after an extraordinary life and a brave battle with an extended illness for the past year.

Tryg was born on Oct. 9, 1928 in Orange, N.J., the only son of Jakob and Nora Margit Landru. After graduating from High School at Thief River Falls, Minn., he went on to graduate from Bob Jones University, South Carolina. Called into the ministry, he attended seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, now in Deerfield, Ill.

Reverend Landru is survived by his wife, Lillian Thelma (Omley) Landru, whom he met in college, and they have enjoyed 58 years of marriage. They have served in churches in Canton, Ill.; Buffalo, N. Y.; Dix Hills, N.Y.; and Lakeland, Fla. He then served as District Superintendent for the New England District of the Evangelical Free Church of America for eight years. Tryg and Lil moved to Kenosha in 1985, where he became Pastor of Visitation and Senior Ministries. Upon retiring in 1993, the Landrus have resided at Potters Lake, Wis. near East Troy, and continued to fellowship at Westosha Lakes Church in Paddock Lake, as well as continuing a ministry among the seniors at Kenosha Bible Church.

Tryg will be remembered by anyone who had the privilege of meeting him as a man who loved God and who loved people. His gregarious nature and affable personality led to bear hugs, ready laughter, thoughtful conversations, sensitive counseling, and playful banter. Blessed with a resounding singing voice, Tryg could often be heard leading hymns and choruses both at church and at home. He loved to impart the wisdom of Scripture. Through the years, he and Lil drew many into the haven of their home and family. He always led by example and exemplified his faith in the way he lived.

The Landrus were blessed with four children, all of whom survive their father; daughters, Sandy (Steve) Jensen, Lois (Tim) Black, Andrea (David) McIntyre; and their son, Paul Landru (Kristine). Thirteen grandchildren (and some five spouses) called him ‘Grandpa’; Ben and Lynae (Jensen) Peays, Nick and Sarah Jensen, Danny and Christy Jensen, Donnie and Rachel (Black) Cox, Stephanie Black, Shane and Christina (Jensen) Shubert, Krista McIntyre, Bryan Black, Elise McIntyre, Kevin Black, Jessica McIntyre, Laura Landru, and Katie Landru. In addition, six great grandchildren called him Pop G G; Lilyana Jensen, Braden Peays, Caden Jensen, Michael Peays, Chase Jensen, and Talia Peays. The entire extended family of 33 are so thankful for the heritage of godliness, sense of family, and love of life that Tryg imparted to each of their lives. They praise God for a life well lived, as well as Tryg’s unwavering certainty of life eternal that continues to give peace and hope during this time of loss.

Tryg’s Memorial Service will be held at Kenosha Bible Church on Sun., May 30, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the afternoon. His family invites you to join them for a celebration of his ongoing, eternal life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Spofford, NH Chapel fund are encouraged.
