What Would Jesus Say About the “Ground Zero Mosque?”

As we look at Jesus’ potential conversations with today’s newsmakers, we can’t help but wonder what Jesus would say about the recent  proposal to build an Islamic mosque near the site of the twin towers.  For many, this is an emotionally charged debate in which extremists from both sides are looking to prove a point.  Jesus, however, always looked to the deeper matters of the heart and seldom talked about politics.  His words from Luke 20:19ff provide the backdrop for today.

Hi, my husband and I are trying to find a church that is not afraid to address the issues of today and how they relate to our christian walk. We were so excited to hear that you talked about the Mosque in NY . I was alittle dissapointed that so little time was spent on our response to the Mosque. Prayer is very important, but God needs action as well. You brought up the Greek Church whose permit was denied. Prayer is effective but we need action. Maybe the church can contact the Greek church and pray together. Maybe letters can be written in support of the church. Maybe not a protest, but the church as a whole can contact thoses in charge and express their feeling while expressing their faith. I think when topics such as these are addressed, Christians need advisement on what to pray on as well os getting involved.

      Donna,
Thanks for the comment. Sorry I’m so long in getting back to you on it. I like what you said about giving specific advise on what to do. I will follow up with that…particularly now that the issue is moving to the back burner if the news media coverage.
