BIC Notes- 17 Baptism/Communion in the EFCA

The Church
We believe that the true church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer.

Salvation is a gift from God. There is no honorable act or work we can do to obtain salvation as noted in the book of Eph. chapter 2. Sanctification is a promise of God as we colaborate with the workings of the Holy Spirit; 2 Thes 1:11, 2 Thes 2:13. Because we are new creatures in Christ and all things are new, even our desires have changed -Phil. 2:13, Eph. 1:5. Being confident of this very thing that He who began a good work in us will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ Phil 1:6. The book of Hebrews states, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation: Heb. 2:3. Then it goes on to admonish us to enter into His rest. In order to do so we must mix the Word of God with Faith! Because of unbelief the children of Israel did not enter into His rest; Heb 4. So come boldly to the Throne of Grace in time of need. Do not run from God when things get rough – Run to Him, He cares for you.
