What would Jesus say to: Westboro Baptist Church?

Posted by Office On August - 17 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

If Jesus was a guest this morning on Meet the Press and He were asked about Westboro Baptist, the church that is using aggressive, offensive methods to resist evil people; what would He say to them? Today we’re going to explore history of Jesus’ time to look for other resistant groups. Then we’ll look at Matthew to see what Jesus said to those honestly trying to resist evil people. Obviously the methods of Westboro are extreme and hurtful to the cause of the Gospel, but what does Jesus say to people trying to resist the evil around them? His words may surprise you.

Posted by Office On August - 11 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The second in our series of conversations is what Jesus might say to Richard Dawkins, an outspoken atheist. Dawkins wrote the book, “The God Delusion,” in which he denounces religious instruction as child abuse, and proclaims Yahweh one of the worst possible gods. Listen to what Jesus might say in order to better get to the heart matter with your own conversations of faith.

Seeking God – Prayer Part III

Posted by Office On July - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Last week we discovered the grand problem lurking in the background of the book of Chronicles and how the readers of Chronicles were asking the same questions that we are asking of God today. This week we’ll look at something called the “Theology of Immediate Retribution” – how in the books of Chronicles the stories were centered around and hinged on crucial steps that people must take with God. We’ll be looking this week on how “seeking God” is a story-changing action in the book of Chronicles and we’ll be encouraged to seek God for ourselves today.

Prayer Part Two- Hope & God’s Timing

Posted by Office On July - 16 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The books of Chronicles give God’s answers to a people rebuilding their lives after severe destruction.  It offers a message of hope to those waiting to see if God will restore His promises after a time of punishment. By retelling the story of Kings, the Chronicler challenges God’s people to repentance and prayer and offers hope by pointing to God’s covenant faithfulness.  Some things have not changed. We are still in a time of exile – living as sojourners in a land not our own.  And God still rewards those who have faith. Today’s message challenges us to keep trusting in God’s promises.

Posted by Office On June - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The 20th century brought great strides in our understanding of human reproduction and genetic research. With those advances, there has come a great responsibility for Christians to separate that which we are able to do from that which we ought to do. Poverty and Healthcare Reform

Posted by Office On June - 15 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The healthcare debate and the related discussions on welfare and poverty have been just as polarizing in the church as in the political sphere. As followers of Jesus, we need to embrace the priorities of Him, rather than a brand of American Christianity. Pastor Arters will be teaching on what is on God’s heart, and our individual and corporate responses according to the Scriptures.

Today’s scriptures are 2 Kings 4:1-7 and James 2:1-9.

Posted by Office On May - 20 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

Our worship today reminds us of the reconciliation we have received from the Lord to himself through the work of Jesus. In our struggle against ungodliness in the culture around us, we must remember that it is our job to be ministers of reconciliation. Receive from the Lord today, and then go forth as a giver.

This message is part 2 of the series, “We’re not in Kansas Anymore” and will look at 2 Corinthians 5:11-21.

We’re Not in Kansas Anymore

Posted by Office On May - 13 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Under the Lordship of Christ, believers will often encounter conflicts with the values of the culture around them. Deciding how to work with, or against these values requires wisdom from the Lord. In Pastor Arters’ new series “We’re not in Kansas Anymore” we will look at the nation of Israel under its kings in contrast with the counsel given to believers by the Apostle Paul in order to see how we are to live as Christians in our contemporary world. Week 1 studies 1 Samuel 5, and our battle with pluralism.

The Victorious Life is Strong and Courageous

Posted by Office On April - 22 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Joshua was not Moses. But God knew that he was going to use this new leader to guide the people into difficult days. War always has a cost, and Joshua needed to be strong and courageous. If we are to live a victorious life in Christ, we will need to engage in difficult battles, allowing ourselves to be led by the Lord himself.
