Trygve Landru 1928-2010

Posted by Pastor Stephen On May - 25 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

We are saddened by the loss of a dear friend to the Dix Hills Family, Tryg Landru.  Pastor Landru was the first pastor of the church and served from 1964 to 1972.  He was a gifted communicator and very warm in personal relationships. This helped give a solid foundation to the church in it’s early years. An excellent article was published by the Kenosha Wisconsin News.

Reverend Trygve “Tryg” Landru went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2010 after an extraordinary life and a brave battle with an extended illness for the past year.

Tryg was born on Oct. 9, 1928 in Orange, N.J., the only son of Jakob and Nora Margit Landru. After graduating from High School at Thief River Falls, Minn., he went on to graduate from Bob Jones University, South Carolina. Called into the ministry, he attended seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, now in Deerfield, Ill.

Reverend Landru is survived by his wife, Lillian Thelma (Omley) Landru, whom he met in college, and they have enjoyed 58 years of marriage. They have served in churches in Canton, Ill.; Buffalo, N. Y.; Dix Hills, N.Y.; and Lakeland, Fla. He then served as District Superintendent for the New England District of the Evangelical Free Church of America for eight years. Tryg and Lil moved to Kenosha in 1985, where he became Pastor of Visitation and Senior Ministries. Upon retiring in 1993, the Landrus have resided at Potters Lake, Wis. near East Troy, and continued to fellowship at Westosha Lakes Church in Paddock Lake, as well as continuing a ministry among the seniors at Kenosha Bible Church.

Tryg will be remembered by anyone who had the privilege of meeting him as a man who loved God and who loved people. His gregarious nature and affable personality led to bear hugs, ready laughter, thoughtful conversations, sensitive counseling, and playful banter. Blessed with a resounding singing voice, Tryg could often be heard leading hymns and choruses both at church and at home. He loved to impart the wisdom of Scripture. Through the years, he and Lil drew many into the haven of their home and family. He always led by example and exemplified his faith in the way he lived.

The Landrus were blessed with four children, all of whom survive their father; daughters, Sandy (Steve) Jensen, Lois (Tim) Black, Andrea (David) McIntyre; and their son, Paul Landru (Kristine). Thirteen grandchildren (and some five spouses) called him ‘Grandpa’; Ben and Lynae (Jensen) Peays, Nick and Sarah Jensen, Danny and Christy Jensen, Donnie and Rachel (Black) Cox, Stephanie Black, Shane and Christina (Jensen) Shubert, Krista McIntyre, Bryan Black, Elise McIntyre, Kevin Black, Jessica McIntyre, Laura Landru, and Katie Landru. In addition, six great grandchildren called him Pop G G; Lilyana Jensen, Braden Peays, Caden Jensen, Michael Peays, Chase Jensen, and Talia Peays. The entire extended family of 33 are so thankful for the heritage of godliness, sense of family, and love of life that Tryg imparted to each of their lives. They praise God for a life well lived, as well as Tryg’s unwavering certainty of life eternal that continues to give peace and hope during this time of loss.

Tryg’s Memorial Service will be held at Kenosha Bible Church on Sun., May 30, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the afternoon. His family invites you to join them for a celebration of his ongoing, eternal life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Spofford, NH Chapel fund are encouraged.

Following Jesus

Posted by Office On February - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

“Following Jesus means inviting your friends to meet Jesus.”

Social Networking is the rage, using our technology to connect with others by sharing thoughts or feelings. Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, to name a few, have changed the way some people connect in community, even though separated geographically. Today we’ll talk about how a relationship with Jesus changes our social network whether online or in the flesh.

Day 34-

Posted by Pastor Stephen On February - 3 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Blood on the doorpost Exodus 12 is the book in a nutshell. It begins with a description of the Passover, the central symbol of the Jewish faith, it moves through the 10th plague, the plague of the first-born, which separated those who had faith in the Lord from those without, and lastly, to the event of the departure from Egypt.

This is an image that prepares us for Christ, that the destroyer would be turned away by blood shed, and people would be saved by the response of TRUSTING IN that shed blood. The story of the plagues is one of suffering and refusal to repent. i wonder what the rest of Egypt thought about Pharaoh at this point, with all that had transpired and the suffering that had taken place…the loss of crops, the loss of livestock, and now the loss of life. One would think that the Egyptians themselves would have come out of Egypt with the nation of Israel…perhaps the reason for including aliens in the instructions for Passover.

I find it odd that the Lord would give instructions on celebrating the Passover, BEFORE the event itself…but then I remember the words of Christ BEFORE the event, “Do this in remembrance of me.” It reminds me all the more of the Lord’s confidence in his work, that he can bring about all that he plans without fear of failure.

I wonder how deep the suffering would be for the Israelite who thought it stupid to put blood on their doorpost, who didn’t want toruin the appearance of their house, who thought “God wouldn’t really kill the firstborn.” And then I wonder what it will be like for the church-goer who never really trusted Christ because they thought judgment and hell couldn’t be real.

A few verses from Psalm 31 to close:

Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
in the sight of the children of mankind!
In the cover of your presence you hide them
from the plots of men;
you store them in your shelter
from the strife of tongues.

And Mark 10:45

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

The Psychology of Worship

Posted by Office On November - 15 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

All humans are hard-wired to worship. God has created us with a longing to be in relationship to Himself, in loving dependence and praise. Sin has severed the relationship and confused us as to the proper object of our longing. Today’s worship service is about the restoration that has come through Christ and our continued struggle with idolatry.

Jonah 3

Posted by Office On November - 4 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

What will we do with the mesage we have received from God? Often times we want to dissect faith and belief systems, look for orthodoxy, so that we feel secure in our theological positions. While this is beneficial, we see that God is willing to bless those with even a meager demonstation of faith, if they are responsive to the word they have received. Let this serve as both an encouragement to speak about Jesus and a challenge to be responsive at the level of our knowledge.jonah_screen3
