Dear Friends:
Warm greetings in the Lord as the temperature slowly begins to creep up in the Pacific Northwest after an exceptionally cool spring. It dawned on us that the year 2010 is almost half gone. It reminds us to make good use of our time from day to day. We still hope to visit some of our supporting churches this year as time permits.
Since our last letter, besides our regular responsibilities at the Chinese church in LA, we were in Vancouver briefly for ministry. John was able to use his book on Ethics to teach a summer course in a local Chinese church as well as preaching on Sunday.
From Aug. 1 – 9 we will be in Hong Kong again, this time to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of the ATA (Asia Theological Association). The association handles accreditation of member seminaries in Asia. John had been privileged to be the chairman of ATA for 2 terms in the past. Besides chairing their regular board meetings, he traveled to seminaries in many Asian countries with accreditation teams. The association invited John to take part in this celebration, including granting him an award for his leadership and contributions to the ATA. It is indeed an honor. We hope to take advantage of this opportunity to touch base with many friends there.
In the past few months we have not had opportunity for training in China, but we are networking with some friends who are doing that and requested copies of John’s books on theology and pastoral ministry. We are thankful that these books are being sent and put to good use in training local pastors with a dearth of suitable texts. These books will help meet the needs of the pastors in building a solid theological and practical foundation in their ministry. Pray for John to have time to continue with his writing on a book in apologetics that he started a while back.
Recently one of our former colleagues’ e-mail account was hacked. A scam letter was sent to many on his mailing list informing the receivers that he is stranded in London and needed them to wire him money through Western Union. By the time he discovered this, some have already wired “him” money, with some wiring more than once. In case you receive an e-mail informing you that we are stranded somewhere in the world it most probably is a scam. All of our supporters send in their support through our sending agency earmarked for our support. You can phone ReachGlobal at 1-800-745-2202 or us at 562-608-6807 for verification of authenticity.
Family wise, we are all anticipating the arrival of Max and Shara’s first baby due only weeks away. They are also in the process of moving to a much-needed bigger house in the same neighborhood in anticipation of their new addition. Julian and DaVinda continue to be busy with work, church and homeschooling Jadon, who is now 8 years old. Sharon will be spending time with her brothers in Denver, CO and Nashville, TN for 2 weeks. She continues to seek God’s will and direction when her 3-year contract with the hospital in Shanghai will soon be up. We certainly appreciate your continued prayer for our family as they go through different stages of life.
At a time of much uncertainty financially and facing many natural and man-made disasters, may we all find comfort in our sovereign God whose love and care never ceases.
In His Grace
John and Nellie Hsu
